I think that the best characters are Burt, Tyler, Cledus, Earl, Val, Grady, Larry, Juan, Fu Yen, Jodi (I named my dog after her ), Hiram, Miguel, Nancy, Mindy, Roselita, Jack, Twitchell and of course EL BLANCO! Wow, thats a lot of characters.

My favorite character is Burt, Nancy, Mindy, Miguel, Earl & Walter Chang and I want to say that I miss Heather a lot!! Somebody needs to tell me who the heck Melvin is. I never understood who he is suppose to be. Is he Nancy's son, Nester's son or an orphan? And where did he live? Was he on Nancy's porch when Val & Earl came over to clean out the septic tank in Tremors 1? Do you remember that scene? Val & Earl get krap all over themselves. I am not clear on Melvin at all. Does anyone know the answers to my questions? Old Fred

I believe that stampede said that Melvin's parents were never home and always off gambling and such. (dont quote me, because I could be wrong with this.) If true, hat might explain his personality a little

I think one liners (usually by or about Burt) are a large part of the entire collection. I love the T3 line "what kind of a benevolent deity would condone such irony" right after Burt finds out that he would have been better off feeding the critters instead of blowing his place up - or "oh, you guys really need supervision" or "you really NEED to read the comics". These things say so much about the characters and situation. I really like these guys. they all remind me of friends - even folks like Nancy that think the government is the solution to all her problems. Besides, i want to be Burt when i grow up!

Project412 I did note Melvin's apparent front porch in T-1. Makes one wonder about the shed later in the movie. His popping up in T3 made for an interesting antagonist who got Burt "slurped" and set the stage for the series. I am not sure he would have gotten off of that rock in T3 but in "Feeding Frenzy" I KNOW he'd be El Blanco bait!

and yes 412 stampede did in fact say that melvins parents were never home and were always gambling (and they must of been pretty good for melvin to become a real estate magnet lol)

Melvin may be more that we figured on ... check out my post in 'Night' ... My English lit teachers always made a big deal about writers being socially significant (Alice in Wonderland, Gulliver's Travels and Wizard of Oz come to mind) even if the writer himself denies it. Watching the series movies again last night it occurred to me - This is a great political commentary on the state of the world today. Only one is militarily prepared. Over and over again, everyone runs to Burt's for safety. In Night Burt says 'I keep trying to tell you people to get backup generators' and Nancy interrupts with now is not the time. Everyone is busy looking out for their own financial interest and trusting Burt to keep them safe. My hero Burt is the personalization of the good old USA. Tyler is Britain (prepared but really can't stand alone much of the time), Nancy has GOT to be France (meddles a lot, causes all kinds of problems and rarely contributes to the solution) and Jodie is Germany (efficient, good at making a buck, steady and on your side if you can get their attention) and so on. What do you guys think? Tremors as the great literary epic of the late 20th century.

that is so true i am very politically active and i never even would of thought of it in terms like that now does that make Melvin Russia? doesnt care about anyone that works for him as long as he has his and the arch-nemesis or Burt?
