In the thread for "ghost dance", Timforstan said "i have noticed that as well i have also always wondered about the episode 'night of the shriekers' the day after the storm when the shriekers are loose they cannot leave because the road to bixby is flooded but twitchell is able to drive to perfection that morning after the storm" since it's about this another episode I started a thread for it. Nancy's "yin and yang" comment nearly drove me nuts. It isn't that she's that ignorant. Ignorance can be fixed - it's that she's that incredibly STUPID! Exactly HOW MANY times does she have to be wrong before she finally LEARNS. When Twitch asks Burt to check out the research site with him and Burt says the 'possibilities for disaster boggle the mind' and Nancy says 'For God's sake Burt, not everything is DEFCON 5'. Grief, that's just too stupid to live.

In answer to the original question, it did occur to me that Perfection is desert on the edge of a mountain range. When I lived in Phoenix it was not uncommon for the flash floods to follow the rain by several hours. Basically the rain that fell locally didn't cause the flood. It was the rain that fell in the mountains that flowed into the valley and washed everything away some hours after. That would explain how Twitch could get in but no one could get out.

In another vein, I love the discussion in the safe room about 'normal'. I particularly like Twitch's little speech about "I could (drop out and live hippie style) have but I chose a wife and kid over Big Sur and playing my guitar" I have a lot of respect for anyone who puts the welfare of his family first. That makes him a hero in my book.

OK, one more post and then I'll leave room for others ... I liked Nancy's "I had radical friends" comment - too bad she didn't learn more from them although she did think to use the bomb on them. ... but the best line had to be Burt's (of course, who else) "Back up, Back up generator"!

That was a pretty good episode, probably one of my favorites. Loved the random spraying of bullets from the entrance to the bunker, just wish they would have showed more bullets hitting shriekers in those scenes.

Yeah, me too, but i guess they just didn't have the budget to do that.

We have commented several times on budget. I understand and agree but big budgets are a double edged sword. The remake of 'Day the Earth Stood Still' was big budget but the computer special effects took the place of real character development in my not so humble opinion. The original, while not nearly as flashy, was a much better movie because the characters carried the load. Meaning no criticism at all to the Stamped team (they did an excellent job), the movies might not have been as good had they been 'special effects' movies. The limited number of Shriekers to be blown apart in Night meant we had more time for the characters - time that might have been wasted on Shrieker dis-assembly.

Completely agreed. It would have been cool to see the Shriekers getting blown apart, but it was a nice change in pace seeing it the other way.

In Ghost Dance I mentioned "I should join 'Conspiracy Theorist of the World' but I think they are a UN front to keep track of those of us who are aware of what they are doing. " After watching several episodes last night a light bulb went off ... MELCO stands for "Military Espionage Laboratory COmplex" and Melvin is the front man for the organization. Sort of like Air America was to the CIA. These guys policed up what they could find of the Proudfoot scientist and technicians and carted them off to the secret lab; reforming the core group of Proudfoot under tighter control. If I knew the initials of the agency controlling MELCO they would put me in a little, biddy room, lock the door, take the key and throw away the room! As it is, I am relatively safe since I'm just a 'right wing, paramilitary, paranoid' that no one listens too. Ghost dance was the first line of defense against intruders. Mix Master is to make the valley too hard to live in so no one else goes there. Twitch has been sucked in to protect his retirement (GS-13's gotta stick together) but doesn't really know anything or how much danger he's in. Plant-imal and the mutant crickets were each supposed to make the valley unlivable but Burt and friends foiled the plots. Dept. of the Interior is being played the fool to lend 'plausible deniability' to the government. The series was canceled because the writers were getting too close to the truth. How's that for a theory? If I am never heard from again, you'll know I'm right and either in that little room I described above or a couple of valleys the other side of Cletus.
