Ever since the trailer for Kevin Bacon's Tremors pilot leaked, every movie news site worth its salt has written about it, pretty much all have also hailed it as great. The comments on those articles have also been overwhelmingly positive. The only real negativity I've read has come from diehard fans who are (understandably) being protective of their franchise, for mainly two reasons:
1. Michael Gross is not a part of the series. I get it, Michael Gross has been the posterboy for the franchise for 17 years now when he officially took the lead role in Tremors 3: Back to Perfection, and have also been a part of the franchise from the very start. But is him not being in the series so bad? He's still going strong with the Tremors movies that he's headlining. Two movies in three years and it looks like another one is coming our way soon enough. Not too shabby, if you ask me.
2. The new series pretends like the other movies don't exist. However, this decision simply means the series is in an alternate timeline, so the movies are safe and not tarnished. Parts 1-6 is still Tremors canon, while giving us the alternate timeline with the first movie and this new series. Is that really so bad? We can save the cake and still eat it, so to speak.
To have Tremors coming back with the original star, who is still a big name in Hollywood, should be cause for excitement among fans. Look at what has happened very recently:
*One of the most popular horror franchises ever, The Evil Dead, recently got a revival series that lasted 3 seasons. *Roseanne, one of the most popular sitcoms of all-time, has made a comeback and was picked up for another season after just one episode aired, which reached 18 million viewers. *The Karate Kid, one of the biggest classics from the 1980's, just had an extremely successful revival a couple of weeks ago with its new 10-episode show on Youtube Red.
Now Tremors, our beloved franchise, could be among these successful revivals. If it ever gets picked up, it could reach a whole new audience, which in turn would introduce them to the rest of the franchise, giving its popularity a boost that could lead to who knows what more. We're talking a whole new generation of fans being exposed to the awesomeness that is Tremors. To sit and hope that the new series and all of its possibilities fails sounds rather selfish to me, and not thinking of the big picture.
To quote my favorite character: It's a whole new ballgame, folks. A whole new ballgame.
P.S. This is not an attack on any particular member here, just some thoughts I wanted to share after being surprised over a lot of negative comments by fans in a particular Facebook group.

I'm just looking at it as a divergent history. I get more tremors on a second timeline, and who knows maybe even more movies. The more Tremors to feed my addiction the better.

We are fortunate to have six movies and a 13 episode series, but having 8-10 more episodes is a lot of potential quality we could add to the franchise and enjoy for years to come.

For me, I'm cool with most of what's in the trailer. I liked it, genuinely. I miss the supporting cast, and I dislike the new creature, but seeing Kevin Bacon reprising this role, even if we only ever get to see it in this trailer, is so surreal and such a cool experience. On that basis alone, I would like to see Netflix or someone swoop in and give them a deal to produce the ten episodes.
What bothers me, especially being a filmmaker myself, is seeing once again how Wilson, Maddock, Roberts, and Underwood have been pushed away. This is the third time now, and it just doesn't get easier seeing that. I know how much of themselves they poured into Tremors and how much care they put into maintaining it, and no matter how good someone else's take on it may be (and I will always be open to exploring those other takes) it just really bothers me, as a longtime fan, to see them sidelined and mistreated the way they have been from Bloodlines on.

I see, thanks! I wonder though, if they would have been interested in telling Val's story and ignoring the 3 sequels and TV-series they made after the original.

Science Fiction is funny stuff; change the wrong stuff and it all falls apart. I love bad Japanese Monster flicks and 50's sci-fi. You get minimalist special effects often enough but then again, watching anything Ray Harryhausen worked on is always a joy. Face it, Earth vs. the Flying Saucers, It came from Beneath the Sea, 20 Million Miles to Earth are extremely good without all of the CGI nonsense that is so common is some remakes. The giant ants in THEM are obviously mechanical (not to mention biologically impossible - volume to surface ratio means they couldn't get enough oxygen to survive) but that really detracts nothing from the movie.
The Day the Earth Stood Still is a fabulous movie. The remake is not a bad show provided you did not see the original AND you don't mind the preaching about us destroying earth. They changed the alien and the robot and it just does not work. The old black and white Godzilla movies were great. Compare the original Japanese version (with subtitles) to the American release with Raymond Burr and you find that they both work extremely well. Look at the Godzilla, 1998. While I like some of it (love the French team) the changes to the monster just did not work really well; totally different show.
The new series might work - I always thought the series would have to get beyond just the three life cycle monsters or you run out of things to do with them. Face it, if the government had not interfered in T3 it would have been a much shorter movie. Burt KNOWS how to kill worms, shriekers and ABs. A lot depends on whether the new guys work on the storyline and the characters with the care that Stampede used or if the try to make up for lack of care with a lot of CGI.
Just my not so humble opinion, of course.

I enjoy the 2003 series immensely, but in some ways it is probably a blessing that it got canned early. Like you said, there is only enough to sustain so many episodes. It could have absolutely gone over the 13 episodes (and definitely should have gotten an ending, or at least more answers on the lab and such) but it isn't something that could go seasons upon seasons.
In order for Tremors to really work on television, it would have to be a miniseries with a clear beginning, middle, and ending in sight from the get go. Had Tremors: The Series had that, it might not have gotten canceled (again, not knocking the 2003 series, I truly love it). It seems like this Kevin Bacon series would have been a ten episodes and done type story, with no real "hook" demanding a second season, which probably would have worked in its benefit.

They said somewhere (can't remember if it was Facebook or the FAQ on their website) that they were never asked to be part of it. I think Bacon sought out his own creative team. "Any Intel you can shed on tremors 6? Is it a series or a movie? Because you said in above comments Universal was already working on tremors 6 without you, but also stated they will be starting a new series with Kevin Bacon. Is Valentine the only original character it will have in it, or will it also have characters from any of the other movies/series? Posted by S.S. Wilson on May 7, 2018 As we keep having to say, Universal Studios has decided they don’t want us working on Tremors at all as of Tremors 5. They prefer to have new people make the movies now. So we don’t even know as much as the fans about what’s coming up. Likewise, our representatives contacted the company making the series with Kevin Bacon to offer our services as collaborators, but they refused to meet with us. They did not say why. April, 2018, we have seen news reports that Kevin Bacon announced that his series was cancelled and will not be made. But we have no other information." stampede-entertainment.com/site/fan-extras/tremors-faq/
