A good example of a good remake would be with Watership Down. The movie is good and (if you ask me) the TV series is even better, especially the third season. I prefered the TV series remake over the movie - even if several of my friends thought I was crazy.

With todays sfx, a tremors remake could turn out quite well, but it would be so easy to screw up as well.

proudfootcorp, Welcome, glad to see you. Yep, the only thing preventing remakes or new movies is the willingness of the copyright owners to do it. In addition to my comments earlier you could also do something like Star Trek - an alternate universe kind of thing or just take a new cast as the kids of the originals or ? It would be great - Heck I'd go see Tucker's Monster as well but I suspect the holders of the copy rights are interested. My fear would be that they'd turn it into a splatter flick or some such. That would ruin it for me.

I think for it to be a successful remake, the people who are making it need to be Tremors fans themselves and also know that you can have a good horror film without buckets of gore and a silly amount of swearing.

I don't really see a remake working, honestly. And the effects in the first one hold up today (they are even better than the CGI in a lot of today's movies). Plus, the cast is unbeatable. I just don't see a remake surpassing the original in any way.

Agreed.
I'm not keen on remakes.
Case in point: Spiderman. They're redoing this again and the first movie was out a relatively short time ago!
To me, it's like: you've done it once, either keep the series going or stop, don't remake it, rewrite the story and start from scratch!
If it wasn't successful the first time, why would it be the second or 3rd time?

Yep, New stories with Burt's kids or along the lines of the Tremors series could work, especially if the grandpa Burt made the occasional cameo. The problem of course is with the Burt character a lot of the chemistry goes away. It would need a really competent character (which is why I thought of Burt's son) to handle the survivalist wing nut role. The multi-generation theme is already there with Tremors 4 so why not bring it up to date in a T5? Of course, as a cynic I doubt we'll see another Tremors any time soon and that is too bad, I'd love another Tremors movie.

At this point I would be happy with a novelization from the original writers. A novel that was a continuation of the series or a Tremors 5 type storyline.

I would love to have a Tremors novel. Something I've wanted for a while, actually. Have you read "Tucker's Monster" by Tremors writer S.S. Wilson? its a great book, and makes me think about how great a Tremors book would be.

Agreed, a Tremors novel would be great. I really enjoyed Tucker's Monster so I second your recommendation of that book.

A Tremors novel series is a great idea. I'd read that.

Well, while a remake is not ideal it could bring more fans to the franchise. And if the fan base gets big enough tremors 5 might finally get made.

If a remake brought more fans then they wouldn't make tremors 5 just a sequel to the remake

Yeah, I'd rather just see a sequel to what we already got.

I think we can all agree that the tremors franchise is basically dead (with the exception of a few hundred people world-wide that just want more of it) So what i'm saying is it needs a "jump-start", something really significant to happen to the franchise. Like a remake, or the canceled video game we were promised back in 2003. It would just need to be something made on a large budge (like the first film). Also if they make any more films it better not have the terrible animations of the 3rd film and the series.
